On
our travels home, Alice and I were very proud of our dogs and what they
had accomplished. We were
totally overwhelmed by the show of support and interest.
Since arriving home we have received over 500 emails and letters of
support from all over the country. After
checking with Dave Wisneski (our web page creator), we found out that
since our journey started, we have had over 250,000 hits on our
“little” web page. To say
the least, we owe a lot of thanks to everyone who has been interested in
our journey. Ben speaking at the Argyle Rod & Gun Club Welcome Home Party - Ben, Alice, & Spencer We
have tried to visit as many schools, 4-H clubs, churches, organizations,
etc., as our time has allowed. We
will continue visits as time permits until fall training starts.
My
most rewarding visits have been with the kids at their schools, in their
own environment. After
sharing some of my experiences with the kids, they are always excited
about sharing how they tracked my race.
We would like to complement the teachers on how they have educated
the kids about the Iditarod and how it started because of the original
serum run. Please visit our kids’ corner page where we have shared some of the letters we have received. The Welcome Home Party - Standing Room Only!!!! On
our way home, we decided it would be very hard financially for us to run
this race again for a couple of years – but once we arrived home and
attended a “Welcome Home” party given by the Argyle Rod & Gun
Club, we realized being the “First Wisconsin Resident” musher impacted
a lot of people. We realized
that there was a great deal of support from Sportsmen’s Clubs and the
people of the great state of Wisconsin to help sponsor “the last
great race on Earth”, the Iditarod 2004.
More good friends at the Party - Nettie & Richard Taylor. This is something that Alice and I are very proud of doing and now the entire state of Wisconsin will also be a part of our team.
